Green Antartica

In this 90-minute documentary, we will follow the journey of Edson Vandeira, photographer and mountaineer, alongside six Brazilian scientists in a 60-day camp, exposed to the region’s brutal climate conditions. During this period, the highest temperature in history was recorded on the icy continent, and the reopening of the Brazilian station. Antarctica is covered in mountains and white plains, but the coldest, driest, and most remote continent on the planet is home to abundant wildlife. Marambio Island is where bones of dinosaurs, marine reptiles, and other extinct organisms are found. The launch of the camp is done from the ship “Ary Rongel”. For 10 years, photographer and adventurer Edson Vandeira has been working for the Brazilian Navy, supporting scientists and ensuring their safety in the field. How will he and the scientists deal with the main difficulties of this operation? Arriving in Antarctica is already an adventure that starts in Punta Arenas, Chile; passes through the dangerous Weddel Sea; and there are constant changes of plans – because nature dictates the rules. Vandeira takes us straight into the action and fantastic scenery of Antarctica from the perspective of a long, isolated 60-day camp.
